DynamoKid Touch (Android, Apple)
"Platform app with touch-controls."
Seriously, OrangePixel keeps releasing the apps I love the most. The retro-oriented gameplay and snazzy look of all their apps make me come back for more! This time I'm reviewing DynamoKid Touch, a side-scrolling platform game with touch controls.
In DynamoKid Touch, you play as a little kid who has to collect the stars that fell out of the sky. By adding little parts of the story bit by bit in a storybook setting the game really gets more depth. With each world you unlock, you'll find a new part of the story - Mostly cute and short, but still worthwhile to read.
The levels in DynamoKid, like all OrangePixel games, are very hard. The side-scrolling levels consist of heaps of enemies and obstacles that you'll have to dodge or destroy by using your finger. The kid walks automatically, you'll only have to take care of jumping from platform to platform if you want to survive. By using your touches on the screen, you progress the level. These conclude sliding stars to make them drop to the ground so you can pick them up and crushing rocks that are heading your way.
There's also the transparent platforms that are just visible by their outline, you'll have to slide your finger across these to make them visible and solid. Each world introduces a new theme with new monsters or renewed monsters you've seen before in other worlds. There's also the star-quota, which is a certain quantity of stars you'll have to collect to finish a world. Did I mention all the levels are automatically generated? This means the game has a high replay value, but it also means sometimes parts of the levels are glitched or designed in a weird manner which most likely will make you die.
With over five beautiful worlds, each with three tough levels to enjoy, DynamoKid can really amuse you for a long time. The game has beautiful, comic-art style graphics and with each level the game gets more color and depth. The game gets updated quite frequently. With the new added mini-games and Feint leaderboards DynamoKid surely is worth the space and time.
